  • The place was virtually deserted when we visited early May. It was an absolutely wonderful change from noisy, noisy Lima. We had a great guide and we spent about 3 hours in Chavin. I recommend a visit...  more »
  • To the Chavín Complex I went on a tour taken from Huaraz Square. The route to get to Chavín has very beautiful landscapes, reaching the alley of conchucos. We leave Huaraz for the small village of Chavín de Huántar. It is 110 kilometers from Huaraz, passing through Catac, then The Lake of Querococha and the Kahuish Tunnel, at 4,550 meters above sea level, from where you descend to 3,140 meters above sea level in the village of Chavín de Huántar. Unfortunately the asphalt ends at the exit of the tunnel, becoming a dirt road in very good condition, which previous years was an asphalt that had no maintenance. Despite the path as an admirer of Peru's archaeology, he could not fail to know the site that was the cradle of great cultures, it was considered as the oldest culture in America. But since the work carried out years ago in Caral, this new site has displaced it, surpassing it in antiquity, in more than 1,500 years. You pay a ticket to enter the park, but you also have to take separate the guide service, mandatory and necessary to tour the site. Upon arrival you marvel at such construction, both the temple and the underground galleries are constructions of carved and polished stones, they are a work of mega engineering. Really everything you can see in the complex is externally, because there are still areas that are under investigation and there is still a lot to discover in the complex. In the case of galleries if you can visit and are unimaginable. One is astonished to see the imposing stone structures, the architecture in general and the advanced knowledge that they had to possess at that time. It's very important to be with a good guide. In its original site are a nail head and the monolithic spear, the stela of Raimondi is located in the Archaeological Museum of Free People and the Tello Obelisk in the National Museum of Chavín, along with more nails. Highly recommended for its historical value. This place is a direct passage to our past, showing us the greatness in which our ancestors unfolded. You can't miss a visit.
