Huaca Pucllana, Lima

4.4
In stark contrast to the skyscrapers and modern infrastructure surrounding it, the steep stones of Huaca Pucllana boast more than 1,000 years of history. The adobe pyramid, standing in what is now the center of Peru's capital, was built by before 700 CE by the pre-Inca people known as the Lima. Constructed from seven rising platforms, the pyramid served as a power base for elite clergymen, from which they controlled the affairs of society. Gaze upon the pyramid and imagine the mystical ceremonies that were conducted in this holy place more than a thousand years ago. • Travel with obligatory guide. In general I do not like the tours so guided, although it is totally understandable the reason for this. The very nice guide. I got a little long on the course.

  • All in all, what you see from the outside is what you get. As Canadians visiting in February, we made the grave error of visiting during the heat of the day. This place is a hot hellscape on a Peruvian summer day. Only accessible during a tour, the location offers no respite from the sun. The tour takes a full hour, which, while very interesting and educational, is a bit of a long time to be looking at bricks. Our tour guide was very good, and we enjoyed learning about Lima culture, but there isn't much to see other than the clay mud bricks and the views from the top, which are definitely quite good. If you plan to visit, go during the evening.
  • Service and food, from appetizer to dessert was as good as you can get... Outstanding resteraunt in outstanding location. My highest recommendation... You will not be disappointed but you will pay a reasonable amount for this excellent experience
