Amid olive and cork trees on a hillside, find Centro Interpretativo dos Almendres, the most important Megalithic site in Portugal. With 96 stones, this archeological complex is one of the largest groups of its kind in Europe. Discover the various structures that make up this impressive site, including cromlechs and menhir stones. Take in the scenic landscape and explore the site's history, which stretches back thousands of years. View the recently discovered formation, which wasn't known until Henrique Leonor Pina happened upon it while doing fieldwork in 1966. • Okay. Some stones. Quite a lot of kids running about (including ours!) so maybe not the vibe of quiet contemplation etc the stone circles might have!
  • Very knowledgeable and helpful staff. Nice local arts and crafts.
