Trip Planner: Europe / Portugal / Central Portugal / Lisbon District / Lisbon / Santo Antonio de Lisboa
One of the city's major landmarks, Santo Antonio de Lisboa features an easily recognizable front facade blending elements of both Baroque and Neoclassical architectural styles. According to local legend, the church marks the birthplace of St. Anthony, revered as a matchmaker and protector of young brides. Designed by architect Mateus Vicente de Oliveira and completed in the 1760s, the church notably includes a large altarpiece depicting a scene in which the saint holds baby Jesus in his arms. The square in front of the church features a statue of St. Anthony dedicated by Pope John Paul II in 1982. Its a lovely and peaceful place to go right in the middle of the city. This church is dedicated to Saint Anthony. The church is very nice. It’s a small church. The church is built where Saint Anthony was born. If you go downstairs you can see the exact place where Saint Anthony was born. Very nice place to visit. This church is close to Lisbon Cathedral.
It is the most gorgeous place. Its very calming inside the church. There is the place where St Antonio's was born. The church sells bread, that don't get expired. If you have the chance, you should buy it.
