Trip Planner: Europe / Portugal / Northern Portugal / Aveiro District / Luso / National Forest of Bussaco
Set within the walls of a historical monastery complex, National Forest of Bussaco stands as one of the country's top preserved natural areas. Visit the park and explore its 105 hectares (259 acres) of thickets and greenery, comprising nearly 700 plant species. Guided trail tours are available in English, and each offers a varying degree of hiking difficulty, as well as a focus on a certain part of the forest. Stop by the ornate church and little-used royal palace. While the forest is only 2 km (1.2 mi) from nearby Luso, the walk is uphill and extremely steep, so those with mobility issues should avoid going by foot. The size of the forest is surprising. I strongly recommend this location, especially for those who like walking and trekking-here is the ideal place. Quick access to those located in the centre of Vila do Luso, Mata offers a variety of spaces, including even an area with some tropical words. I recommend the use of suitable footwear and a few bottles of water because even a little time to walk in this forest promises a lot of physical activity. It is also a great place for those interested in visiting the cold fountain, with its impressive staircase, the convent and Palace (Hotel) of Bussaco and the High cross. The architecture of the palace is to cut the breath and the paintings on the tiles of the outside of it refer to the history of Portugal and to the Portuguese literature. The best of all is that the entrance is free for those who go on foot.
This is beautiful place and definitely worth the visit, watersreams, trees shrubs and bushes. Interesting history and beautiful old palace.
Quiet, beautiful and interesting space. With beautiful views, walking and discovering this forest is an adventure.
