Pedro, the guide of the Free tour, proved quite well known about the story that involved his country as well as its cultural, religious and international aspects. I also did a tour and wine tasting, in English, with a guide whose name I forgot. The guide of this tour, despite numerous qualities (friendly, attentive, interactive, with necessary knowledge about wines), released a comment that I particularly found very inconvenient. At the time of the presentation of the countries she asked everyone's nationality and by stating that she was Brazilian, she questioned me aloud and in front of everyone: "Do you guys have really good English to understand this tour?" I think that assuming how much a person speaks English only and exclusively for his nationality is limiting. Would it be that if I were from some other country she would ask that same kind of question? We had Europeans from Latin-speaking countries (France and Italy, for example) and they were not "questioned" about their level of English publicly. Does this relate to Stigmata of "north-developed" X "sul-subdesenvolvidos" countries? And I believe that it was not the intention no time, just an oversight (the guide, as I mentioned, seemed sympathetic), but emerged as a certain embarrassment, because it is a public act in front of everyone. My English, by the way, is advanced level. But what if it didn't happen and I was there to make friends and learn?... She realized that in fact we spoke English and completed saying it is very rare Brazilians who speak English (I do not know if she lived in Brazil to know, there are countless aspects and variations that involve the knowledge of a second language). Finally, she asked if I lived in Europe or in Brazil (as if to be a speaker of the English I did not have to live in Brazil-by the way, I live SIM in Brazil). The tour is good and I give the feedback in order to add. I hope that this thought that a certain nationality restricts certain types of personalities-behaviors, temperaments, knowledge-is deconstructed by people who work with segments that involve different identities and Ethnicities. Segmentation of profiles by nationalities fosters prejudices. Even with this intercultural gap, I recommend both tours.
Had an informative, friendly and fun Porto walking tour with Diana. She was so good that we also did the wine and Port tour with her. Great value and a good way to get a feel for Porto
A nice long free tour in Porto, very interesting. Highly recommend, and don’t forget to prepare some cash, for sure you will want to tip your guide in the end.
