Originally a Port wine carrying unit, Funicular dos Guindais nowadays transports passengers up and down the hill from Batalha to Rua Augusto Rosa at Ribeira. The 281 m (922 ft) railway running alongside the cathedral walls can carry up to 25 people at a leisurely pace of 18 km/h (11 mph). Take in the views of the river with its immense bridge, traditional boats in the distance, and Port wine lodges, while gently cruising up the hill.   • After a busy day exploring Porto, we opted to take the Funicular to save some time and our aching feet! We paid €2.50 each and the views were well worth it. On my first visit I just walked through the...  more »
  • It is an interesting means of transport, because it connects the square of Batalha with the Ribeira, it is OK because you save a lot of stairs, but it is a little expensive for how little it lasts the trip, but it is worth it.

  • Defo worth it! The best way to get on the top level of the bridge. Also it takes you straight to the old tram stop, route 22.
  • Great views and lovely city panorama.
