The surprise is found inside, made in the 1700s, which presents one of the most extraordinary and glitzy examples of the Baroque style in Portugal; there is not a single square centimeter of the church that has not been decorated, with columns and pillars, statues of monks and cherubs, garlands, animals, covered with tens of kilos of gold leaf. Filled with arabesques the nave, as well as small jewels are placed at various points of the sacred building: the chapel of St. John the Baptist, made in the Manuelin style, the statue of St. Francis of Assisi, dating back to the 13th century, the Tree of Iesse (Isaiah), an imposing and splendid 18th-century polychronitological altarpiece, which represents a schematization of the family tree of Jesus Christ (pictured as a real plant), illustrating its origins from the kings of Israel and Judea. The adjacent museum has a curated collection of sacred art, as well as leading to the catacombs, where the important and influential personalities of Porto were once buried.
Pretty simple church with a crypt in the basement that's worth a visit if your into that sort of thing.
Worth a visit. It's stunning
