Trip Planner: Europe / Portugal / Central Portugal / Lisbon District / Sintra Municipality / Sintra / Palacio Nacional de Sintra
The historic Palacio Nacional de Sintra represents the most well-preserved medieval palace in Portugal. You can tour the palace, which was named a National Monument and World Heritage Site, for a closer look at the preservation and restoration. This castle dates back to the 10th century and was inhabited from at least the 15th through 19th centuries. While it was built in Moorish times, its architectural style is a result of rebuilding in the 1400s. View the mixture of Gothic, Manueline, Mudéjar, and Moorish style present today, as well as decorative ceramic tiles added to the site during the Age of Discoveries. Sintra is a lovely town and lovely area very close to Lisbon. We loved our day there and in the Pena Palace. This town is lovely, shame we only spent a few hours there. But we still had time to try the local pastries. A must for a day trip from Lisbon.
Sintra was amazing, it was one of our favorite day trips. You definitely get all your steps in! Be prepared for so many pictures. Was nice that there wasn’t a crazy amount of people there, had plenty of photos with no people as you can see. Definitely follow the map they give you, you don’t want to miss a thing!
