Park and National Palace of Pena
The exotic Park and National Palace of Pena, a World Heritage Site known for its Romanticist architecture, is listed as one of the Seven Wonders of Portugal. While the foundation of this palace dates back to a chapel in the Middle Ages, the current appearance is mostly the work of German architect Baron Wilhelm Ludwig von Eschwege. He mixed Neo-Gothic, Neo-Manueline, Neo-Islamic, and Neo-Renaissance styles to create this dramatic structure. Tour the palace to admire the building's restored red and yellow facade, interior design, and antique furniture. What a truly spectacular, fairytale palace. The architecture is stunning with magically vibrant colors. This palace and it's surrounding landscape is truly a site not to be missed. The details are breathtaking. Spend the day exploring this well preserved palace and it's grounds. There is a little bus that will take you from the main gate up the hill to the palace if you don't want to or can't do the little walk. There are restrooms, a nice gift shop and food. There is ample parking. You can either do a guided tour or explore the palace and grounds at your leisure. This is truly a lively, historic place that is well maintained and offers visitors a lot to see. The staff are very friendly, helpful and informative. Crowds can get large, so plan accordingly. If visiting Lisbon, I highly recommend coming to see this magnificent place

Awesome place!!! Very well maintained, clean and a pleasure to walk through. The drive to this palace is do scenic, green, and cool. Lots of trees and preserved gardens. Some of the villas and bungalows belong to Hollywood stars !!!! Very interesting history of the royalty of Portugal. The displayed items are magnificent. Senior citizens and wheel chair bound persons be aware. Maybe difficult for them. The view from the top is fabulous!!!! Clean washrooms at strategic places is of great help. You will need a pair of good walking shoes! No heels or stilettos! A must visit for all tourists.
