Park and National Palace of Pena, Sintra

4.3
The exotic Park and National Palace of Pena, a World Heritage Site known for its Romanticist architecture, is listed as one of the Seven Wonders of Portugal. While the foundation of this palace dates back to a chapel in the Middle Ages, the current appearance is mostly the work of German architect Baron Wilhelm Ludwig von Eschwege. He mixed Neo-Gothic, Neo-Manueline, Neo-Islamic, and Neo-Renaissance styles to create this dramatic structure. Tour the palace to admire the building's restored red and yellow facade, interior design, and antique furniture. • With the life of Ferdinand II, the Pena Palace, built by Germany Architects in 1885, is a spectacular mix of Islamic Gothic Renaissance Manuel, with its colours and views as it stands atop the peak of 529m altitude. I think that it is better to go on tour. I good athlete from the first thing in the morning.

  • I advise you to go early because the queues are always enormous. The view is beautiful and the monument is very well maintained. The visit to the countryside is organized to be made only in a direction not allowing autonomous exploitation. Which is understandable given the number of tourists. The price of the ticket is €14 per person.

  • I loved this place. Sintra is one of my favourite places in Lisbon district. It's so green, and calm and beautiful. I love nature and everything natural, this landscape is so nice and simple and naturally good in the eyes. It's a magical place and the palace and its colours go so well with the view. You should come here, you won't regret it.
  • Great views across the area. Inside the palace has been well maintained and is easy to navigate. Descriptions of each area are insightful and it was not overly busy when I was there. Easy to get to from the main train station and good spot to visit before heading up the hills.
