Learn what life was like for peasants around the Romanian countryside during the last four centuries at Peasant Museum (Muzeul Taranului Roman). Housed in a red-brick building, the museum exhibits traditional dress, furniture, hand-painted Easter eggs, icons, terracotta pottery, tools, and other items. If you want to find out more about the artifacts, you can take the information panels available in English and carry them with you. In a farmer's kitchen look for a door in one corner, behind which surprises await. The museum also features complete wooden buildings, a gift shop that sells replicas of some exhibits, and a small room in the basement dedicated to the communist era. I was sold a temporary exhibition by the staff, which could not even point me in the right direction of where this was apart from an empty courtyard. No signage, no information, nothing. Do not go. more »

To be seen! It basically contains everything about us, the Romanians, better than we could say in words. Unlike other museums in the world, each room becomes a living space where you can breathe the a... more »

The Gift Shop of this Museum is one of the best I've ever seen! They have really old Romanian blauses with some minor defects at some incredible prices. They also organize quite frequently fair with homemade products. Definitely recommend!

Unfortunately, this museum is closed for renovations. If you are in doubt, ask one of the tourist information centers before going. Other notes: - The entrance is in the rear (back side) of the building, NOT on the front side facing the street - There is a really nice local market with crafts in the field behind the museum (on the rear side by the entrance). - There is a cafe on the back side - There is an old building worth viewing on the back side. Again, the main peasant museum is closed with no date set for re-opening.
