Castelul Corvinilor, Hunedoara

Soak in the atmosphere of medieval Romania in the chambers and dungeons of Castelul Corvinilor. Military figure Iancu of Hunedoara--said to be the illegitimate son of the Hungarian king--built the castle in the 15th century. Legend has it that Vlad the Impaler lost his sanity while imprisoned in the castle's dungeon. The courtyard houses "the bear pit," where two hungry bears allegedly took care of the unwanted. The castle features a lady's chamber with 19th-century furniture, a collection of armor in the knight's hall, a royal chapel, a torture chamber, and the Diet Hall, decorated with medieval flags. Climb to the tower and take a peek at a Gothic fireplace. Using our custom trip planner, Hunedoara attractions like Castelul Corvinilor can form part of a personalized travel itinerary.

  • Long dreamed to visit this castle. We drove from Sibiu 1.5 hours to this castle. Nearby there is a parking and shopping stalls with souvenirs. It is very convenient that you do not have to go far to the castle. The entrance cost us 25 lei. The castle is chic, huge, old. There are a lot of rooms and steps inside. Very interesting, there are viewing platforms and towers in the castle. The stairs are very sharp. Very helpful staff. And there are also in the castle artists dressed in old clothes, some play musical instruments. With very small children not really on a wheelchair, but it is possible in a sling (backpack) with the parent, we so have done.

  • After visiting the Peles castle in Sinaia This is little thing although seen from the outside it is very nice. It has been restored with modern cement and is noted. It's bare inside.

  • One of the most beautiful castle in Romania. It is renovated all most to perfection. The pictures say everything. I've been here in a Thursday morning and the place was very quiet and a lot less people then in a weekend. The ticket is 30 lei by person and you buy it from a small boot in front of the castle. There is a big parking lot (with payment - normal car/8 lei/day) near the castle from where you can buy something to eat and some souvenirs. The castle has inside and outside toilets. The keepers of the castle are very nice and helpful. Every room has a small description in Romanian and English languages.
  • I’ve been here in 2012 and still thinking about that place. Mesmerizing! The view is breathtaking. Willing to go back there one day. 🌄🏰🥰
