Trip Planner: Europe / Romania / Transylvania / Central Romania / Brasov County / Zarnesti / Libearty Bear Sanctuary Zarnesti
Watch the bears feed on forest plants, climb trees, and swim in pools at Libearty Bear Sanctuary Zarnesti, which shelters over 70 animals who've been rescued from illegal exploitation. The story of the sanctuary started in 1998 when its founder, Cristina Lapis, saw three bears caged outside a restaurant who were being used to amuse customers. The habitat of oak and hazel forest allows the bears to stay hidden in the bushes, except in the morning when they come near the fence to be fed. The sanctuary is also home to a she-wolf that was born in a zoo and rejected by her own pack. Watch a short clip explaining how the sanctuary was built before going to see its furry residents. This place is great! Very informative guide that tells you about the history of the Sanctuary and about the story of many bears that they've rescued. The tour is a short, but steep, walk on gravel and you can see bears eating, bathing, or just laying around. They also have wolves and deer and they're associated with a dog rescue. They're doing beautiful work with these poor animals! 💙💛♥️
Excellent and sad, it's great and informative but its not a zoo ( thankfully). Lots of walking up hill so think if have young and older visitors. Would highly recommend. People need educating on this issue so it stops!!
