Browse the stalls of Greenmarket Square, a historic plaza in the capital city known for its colorful flea market. Built in the 1696, the square has had different uses during its long history, serving as a vegetable marketplace, a parking lot, and--infamously--as a slave trade market. Today you can bargain and haggle with the vendors who sell everything from local crafts and souvenirs to affordable clothing and jewelry. After checking out the merchandise, head to one of the surroundings cafes and restaurants to rest with a refreshing drink and people-watch. • An over 320 year old square. We came shopping for unique souvenirs. We enjoyed the market. Lots of interesting and unusual African handicrafts and other things to see.  more »

  • Very nice place!!!! Hoy don't believe you are in Africa, the combination of styles in the architecture is very eclectic but wonderfully!!! The market special place where you can find whatever you want, especially local art. The street every Thursday has a very nice food square with a lot of very good places in which you can have a very good meal. The walking tour very good!!!!
  • Bags, paintings, salad bowls, spoons, bags, paintings, salad bowls, spoons, and more bags, paintings, salad bowls, and spoons. Did I mention spoons!? It's a market perfectly to shop for souvenirs to remember your trip to South Africa or little presents for your friends and family back home. The atmosphere is friendly and relatively relaxed, the sales clerks however know their jobs and are nicely persistent.
