Take a tour of Cape Point, a dramatic seaside promontory and part of Table Mountain National Park, known for its scenic landscape and hiking trails. The narrow coastline, discovered in 1488 by Bartholomeu Dias, became famous as the birthplace of the "Flying Dutchman" legend. A bird-watching paradise, the area shelters more than 200 species, including the African penguin, as well as a variety of other creatures like Chacma baboon, fallow deer, whales, and the elusive Cape mountain zebra. For travelers who use our world travel planner, Cape Town holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the Cape Point and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.

  • Spectacular and literally breath-taking. I have had the great fortune to visit many impressive places around the globe, but this bucket list item is now near the very top of my list as far as stunning natural beauty. It exceeded my expectations in every way. I'm already planning a return trip to South Africa for next year.
  • Great views at the very tip of the continent. You must see this, go early, beat the tourists and crowds. Great photo ops and the chance to see some wildlife too, mostly baboons and ostrich. I love it there.
