Initially used as the Korean army headquarters, The War Memorial of Korea today serves to memorialize the nation's military history. Established in 1993, the building contains six indoor exhibition halls and one outdoor center, which displays more than 13,000 military items and war memorabilia. With the purpose to educate future generations by collecting, preserving, and showcasing historical records and relics, the museum has become one of the most prominent touristic landmarks of its kind in the world. Explore the halls divided into different themes, such as the Korean War, war history, and large equipment room, among others. Some special exhibitions require purchasing a ticket. For those who like history it is unmissable. Full of technology, with three floors counting all the wars that Korea has passed. Of course, the Korean War is the focus. It is worth going with plenty of time to enjoy the information. Already outside begins the impact, with especially the sculpture of the two brothers embraced.
The tour was great. It was sad to see how many people died but happy to see the scene when the Korean flag was raised. Great history lesson. more »
A brilliant museum. Generally free but small charge if special exhibition. Get a paper guide at the entrance and follow your way around following the arrows on the floor, it'll take you through early Korean history to the modern day. It will take a few hours to do everything properly and really you need to give it the whole day. Lots of different exhibits with various levels of interactions from ancient artifacts to modern 4D simulation films (no extra charge!) Lots of photo opportunities and don't miss the outside exhibits and monuments.
Great activity to go and do. Take the day off and go and explore this great memorial. Lots of interesting artifacts. You won't be disappointed at all! Very good way to learn about the history of Korea.
