Casa Mila - La Pedrera, Barcelona

#2 of 112 in Museums in Barcelona
To see one of architect Antoni Gaudí’s most controversial designs, visit Casa Mila - La Pedrera, known for its undulating stone facade and the wrought-iron decorations on its balconies and windows. Declared a World Heritage Site in 1984, the building features some of the most innovative elements of its time, including underground parking. Perhaps the most remarkable element of the building is the roof, which features enormous chimneys designed to look like medieval knights. The architect’s elaborate plans for the roof included adding a huge statue of the Virgin, but when the businessman who commissioned the building said no, Gaudí resigned from the project. Today, the roof is frequently the site of music performances. Check online for an accurate schedule of special events and available tours. • While the entrance to the casa Mila is not cheap, if you've traveled from afar and have the possibility to visit it, is a very nice site and for those who have knowledge of architecture a liable as on this site all the paradigms are broken of the conventional constructions, if only you could go to in the Sagrada Familia see site without hesitation, but if you already came to Barcelona and you don't do it, the price includes you audio and this is a plus

  • Gaudi = art but also Barcelona and Gaudi is one thing. I'm not going to wymądrzał on what I've seen, I'll just say: we were Bewitched. However, two comments a little "next to": 1. for Gaudí as for Abakanowicz in the human dimension of space there is no place for sharp angles; 2. in buildings is a project of the Church in Parc Guelle I suggest you compare with the winning design on the Temples of Divine Providence-we could have in Poland work outstanding but

  • The apartments are quite beautiful. The audio guide was very informative. Had a great time but I have seen more spectacular buildings before. I think beautiful and aesthetics are very subjective so please read my review with a pinch of salt.
  • Great stop and tour of building. Attic is incredible to see. Plan for at least a 1 to 1.5 hr visit. Loads of great photo opportunities. Don't miss a visit here.
