Millesgarden, Lidingo

#4 of 71 in Parks in Stockholm County
Located in the studio and home of sculptor Carl Milles, Millesgarden brings art and nature together. This art museum and sculpture garden provides an oasis for art lovers. Carl Milles and his wife (and fellow artist) Olga Milles acquired the property in 1906 and used it to showcase not just their own works but art from around the world. Tour their house and studio and view the couple's antiques. See international art exhibited alongside Milles' works, including his sculpture "God's Hand," which is on permanent display. • In fact, this place is a small museum and sculpture park. With a paid entrance. But despite this, the Swedes just love to spend time here. The fact is that the park is high on a cliff, and from its observation deck offers an incredible view of the strait. In the park itself, one can meet mostly retired people, walking or reading books, sitting on benches. But in the museum very often there are interesting expositions, as well as constantly held lectures and seminars (often with a buffet table). Plus, to get to the park you will most likely be on the tram, which almost all the way goes along this very strait. That is another sight!
  • A great permanent exhibition of sculptures striking interesting and somewhat unique poses. I enjoyed walking through where the Milles once lived - seeing their cute little breakfast alcove and the marble statues they had inside the house. They also had a room dedicated to some of the broken statues which still looked great even when missing a few limbs or a nose. The only negative feedback I have is how the stairs feel a bit weird in the outside area.
