See the only preserved 17th-century ship in the world at Vasa Museum, the most-visited museum in Scandinavia. This maritime museum on the island of Djurgården displays a 64-gun warship that sank during its maiden voyage in 1628. The structure on exhibit is almost the complete ship from the wreck, which was decorated with hundreds of original carved sculptures. After decades of restoration work (the ship was salvaged in 1961), the museum opened in 1990. Today more than a million tourists visit the site annually to view the ship's 10 exhibitions in 13 different languages. Vasa Museum Reviews
Vasa museum is much different than any other museums you may have visited in the past. It's well made and very impressive. The fact that you get to approach such an old ship wreck is really unique. more »
I am not a great fan of boats or naval history. But this is so much more. The Vasa itself is a stunning sight – it is difficult to imagine how awe inspiring she must have appeared on her maiden... more »
Incredible Museum, a night to behold and well worth the small entree fee. It's something you can't experience anywhere else and the reconstructed parts blend in rather well without being jarring. If you're going to Stockholm it's a definite must see
Neat museum that is dedicated to just one thing, the Vasa. The museum is incredibly informative, starting off with a short film about the ship even for those who have no idea what it's about. There are a variety of languages for the film with English subtitles. The ship model is gigantic and full of detail. Some exhibits are multimedia as well so it keeps things lively. Good way to spend 1.5 hours taking your time to appreciate the historical ship.
