Queen's Park Savannah, Port of Spain

When in Port of Spain, head to Queen's Park Savannah for some rest or recreation. The vast 110 hectares (260 acres) originally served as a sugar estate; later purchased as public land, it became a park by the mid 19th century. You may barely notice, but around it circles the world's largest traffic roundabout. The wide swath of low grass sits in the city's most affluent neighborhood, surrounded by notable buildings. Have a picnic, people-watch, or join the crowd of locals who gather there to stroll, jog, hang out with family, or snack on some street food. • But nothing really to see, except for the carnival days, when the place is very lively. The rest of the time just a big empty space. You need to go around for the zoo and botanical garden. The locals....  more »
  • Couldn't actually enter this castle/building so only did a drive by. Interesting story behind it and I'm sure if you could enter it would be well worth it.  more »

  • Largest roundabout in the country in essence. Under utilised and perhaps therefore easier to maintain. Picturesque in general. Casual sporting facilities, soccer, rugby, cricket, kite flying, running, calisthenics and so on. Just a wonderful open space within the city. Safe if you exercise common sense. Food festival virtually every night! Massive carnival venue. Great memories.
  • A central green space, so versatile, full of activities daily. Recreation and Sports, Interesting Trees and Flowers, Good for picnicking and kite flying with family. Grabbing coconut water or Snowcone after your run. And some major concerts and other festivals are held here. The home of the famous Savannah Stage crossed by millions during the Trinidad Carnival Tuesday parade. Parking also very convenient. Decent quick food options during different periods of the day.
