Imperial City

Capital of the Inca Empire for three centuries, World Heritage-listed Cusco is now a major tourist destination, drawing nearly 2 million annual tourists with its well-preserved colonial architecture and proximity to Machu Picchu.
On the 10th (Sun), spend a fun day on foot with Walking tours. There's lots more to do: contemplate the long history of Sacsayhuaman, hike along exploor, take in the spiritual surroundings of Qorikancha, and take an in-depth tour of Museo Inka.

Brasilia, Brazil to Cusco is an approximately 10.5-hour flight. You can also drive; or take a bus. You'll gain 2 hours traveling from Brasilia to Cusco due to the time zone difference. Expect little chillier weather when traveling from Brasilia in July: highs in Cusco hover around 24°C, while lows dip to 1°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 11th (Mon) so you can catch the shuttle to Ollantaytambo.

Ollantaytambo

Retaining much of its centuries-old architecture, Ollantaytambo represents one of the world's finest examples of Incan city planning.
Kick off your visit on the 12th (Tue): explore the striking landscape at Salinas de Maras and then stroll through Hacienda del Chalan. On the 13th (Wed), you'll have a packed day of sightseeing: steep yourself in history at Archaeological Park Ollantaytambo and then appreciate the extensive heritage of Qosqo Ayllu.

Getting from Cusco to Ollantaytambo by shuttle takes about 1.5 hours. Other options: drive; or take a bus. In July, plan for daily highs up to 24°C, and evening lows to 1°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 13th (Wed) early enough to catch the train to Machu Picchu.

Founded in 1535 by Spanish explorer Francisco Pizarro, Lima represents an interesting blend of modern attractions and preserved colonial architecture, much of it clustered in the World Heritage-listed city center.
Start off your visit on the 17th (Sun): ponder the design of Plaza de Armas (Plaza Mayor) and then take an in-depth tour of Museo Larco.

Traveling by flight from Arequipa to Lima takes 3.5 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or take a bus. Traveling from Arequipa in July, expect somewhat warmer with lows of 19°C in Lima. On the 18th (Mon), wrap the sightseeing up by early afternoon so you can fly back home.
