Queensland’s biggest town and state capital, Brisbane has an attractive, manicured image based around its riverside aesthetic as well as the contrast between its high-rise center and extensive urban greenery.

A city of towering skyscrapers, sandy beaches, and tree-lined streets, Gold Coast has an unpretentious air complemented by a citywide focus on sports and the arts.
On the 2nd (Mon), observe the fascinating underwater world at Sea World Theme Park and then enjoy the sand and surf at Burleigh Heads Beach. Here are some ideas for day two: find something for the whole family at Warner Bros. Movie World, then stroll through Surfers Paradise Beach, and then find something for the whole family at Infinity Attraction.

Traveling by car from Brisbane to Gold Coast takes 1.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a bus; or take a train. Expect a daytime high around 32°C in March, and nighttime lows around 23°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 3rd (Tue) so you can travel to Cairns.

A neat, cosmopolitan city of shaded plazas and laid-back neighborhoods, Cairns serves as a popular base for exploration of the surrounding region and the Great Barrier Reef, as well as a center for watersport activities like surfing or waterskiing.
Venture out of the city with trips to Palm Cove (Palm Cove Beach & Spas) and Mulgrave Settlers Museum (in Gordonvale). There's lots more to do: see some colorful creatures with a scuba or snorkeling tour, hike along Esplanade Boardwalk, take in nature's colorful creations at Botanical Gardens, and take in the exciting artwork at Bones and Jones.

You can fly from Gold Coast to Cairns in 5.5 hours. Other options are to do a combination of train and flight; or drive. Prepare for a bit warmer weather when traveling from Gold Coast in March: high temperatures in Cairns hover around 36°C and lows are around 27°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 6th (Fri) early enough to catch the bus to Port Douglas.
