Designated a World Heritage Site because of its well-preserved Baroque architecture, the city of Ouro Preto served as the state capital until local governance outgrew the scale of this pleasant valley settlement.
Kick off your visit on the 4th (Sat): pause for some serene contemplation at Igreja Nossa Senhora do Rosario, admire the landmark architecture of Basilica of Nossa Senhora do Pilar, see the interesting displays at Museum of Betrayal, then don't miss a visit to Centro Historico de Ouro Preto, then take in the architecture and atmosphere at Church of Sao Francisco de Assis, and finally take in the architecture and atmosphere at Igreja Nossa Senhora do Carmo.
