Reminiscent of the height of the bourgeoisie and retaining much of its medieval architecture, Sibiu is Romania's cultural gem.
Step off the beaten path and head to Catedrala Reintregirii Neamului (Coronation Cathedral) and Old Town. Orthodox Cathedral and Biserica Evanghelică Fortificată will appeal to history buffs. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Sibiu: Alba Iulia (Roman Castrum Ruins, St Michael's Roman Catholic Cathedral, & more). And it doesn't end there: pause for some serene contemplation at Biserica Sfântul Mihail, steep yourself in history at The Tower of Stairs (Turnul Scarilor), wander the streets of Passage of Stairs, and make a trip to Piata Mica.
