Founded in 1535 by Spanish explorer Francisco Pizarro, Lima represents an interesting blend of modern attractions and preserved colonial architecture, much of it clustered in the World Heritage-listed city center.
Kick off your visit on the 3rd (Tue): wander the streets of Centro Historico de Lima, pause for some serene contemplation at Iglesia y Convento de San Francisco, wander the streets of Barranco, then get outside with Outdoor Activities, and finally take an in-depth tour of Museo Larco. Here are some ideas for day two: kick back and relax at Playa Kon-Tiki, steep yourself in history at Huaca Pucllana, and then make a trip to Miraflores.

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil to Lima is an approximately 8-hour flight. You can also drive; or take a bus. Due to the time zone difference, you'll gain 2 hours traveling from Rio de Janeiro to Lima. Prepare for little chillier weather when traveling from Rio de Janeiro in March: high temperatures in Lima hover around 32°C and lows are around 24°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 4th (Wed) so you can travel to Cusco.

Capital of the Inca Empire for three centuries, World Heritage-listed Cusco is now a major tourist destination, drawing nearly 2 million annual tourists with its well-preserved colonial architecture and proximity to Machu Picchu.
Do some cultural sightseeing at Museo de Arte Precolombino and Museo Inka. Visit San Blas and Centro Historico De Cusco for their historical value. There's lots more to do: explore the ancient world of Sacsayhuaman, take a pleasant ride with a tour on horseback, take an in-depth tour of Museo de Vida Monastica - Monasterio de Santa Catalina del Cusco, and tour the pleasant surroundings at exploor.

Traveling by flight from Lima to Cusco takes 2 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or take a bus. When traveling from Lima in March, plan for a bit cooler days and cooler nights in Cusco: temperatures range from 23°C by day to 9°C at night. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 7th (Sat) to allow time to travel to Puno.

Hugging the western tip of Lake Titicaca, Puno serves as a melting pot of indigenous and imported cultures, and makes a great base for explorations around the region.
On the 8th (Sun), explore the different monuments and memorials at Sillustani, step off the mainland to explore Taquile Island, and then get great views at Mirador Ing. Eduardo Sanchez. On the 9th (Mon), you'll have a packed day of sightseeing: examine the collection at Museo Carlos Dreyer and then explore the activities along Lake Titicaca.

You can do a combination of flight and bus from Cusco to Puno in 3 hours. Other options are to drive; or take a bus. Traveling from Cusco in March, plan for a bit cooler nights in Puno, with lows around 3°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 9th (Mon) so you can travel to Ollantaytambo.

Kick off your visit on the 10th (Tue): delve into the distant past at Pinkuylluna Mountain Granaries, delve into the distant past at Archaeological Park Ollantaytambo, and then examine the collection at Choco Museo.

Getting from Puno to Ollantaytambo by combination of bus and flight takes about 4.5 hours. Other options: drive; or take a bus. Traveling from Puno in March, expect somewhat warmer with lows of 9°C in Ollantaytambo. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 11th (Wed) early enough to take a train to Machu Picchu.

Kick off your visit on the 11th (Wed): explore the ancient world of Santuario Historico de Machu Picchu and then identify plant and animal life at Los Jardines de Mandor.
