As the busy capital of São Miguel, Ponta Delgada represents the most visited place on the island. Known for its historical buildings, the city offers 17th- and 18th-century convents and churches, as well as cobbled pedestrian streets and hidden squares.
Start off your visit on the 16th (Fri): appreciate the history behind Estatua Goncalo Velho Cabral and then explore the striking landscape at Caldeira das Sete Cidades. On the 17th (Sat), you'll have a packed day of sightseeing: admire the natural beauty at Parque Terra Nostra, then take in the natural beauty of Caldeira das Furnas, then take in the dramatic natural features at Poca Da Dona Beija, and finally get engrossed in the history at Maria dos Anjos Melo House Museum.

Sao Paulo, Brazil to Ponta Delgada is an approximately 17.5-hour flight. You can also do a combination of bus and flight; or do a combination of flight and ferry. The time zone changes from Brasilia Time to Azores Time, which is usually a 2 hour difference. Traveling from Sao Paulo in August, Ponta Delgada is somewhat warmer at night with lows of 21°C.
