City of Seven Hills

Built on seven hills, Lisbon has experienced a renaissance in recent years, making it the cultural star of Portugal.
You'll find plenty of places to visit near Lisbon: Sintra (Quinta da Regaleira & The Sintra Gift). There's much more to do: don't miss a visit to Belém Tower, steep yourself in history at Castelo de S. Jorge, examine the collection at Museu Nacional do Azulejo, and get the lay of the land with Walking tours.

Valletta, Malta to Lisbon is an approximately 6.5-hour flight. You can also take a bus; or do a combination of bus and train. Traveling from Valletta to Lisbon, you'll gain 1 hour due to the time zone difference. Traveling from Valletta in December, expect a bit cooler with lows of 8°C in Lisbon. Cap off your sightseeing on the 5th (Sat) early enough to go by car to Fatima.

Fátima is a civil parish in the municipality of Ourém, in the Portuguese Santarém District. On the 5th (Sat), contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Capela Das Aparicoes.

Birthplace of the Portuguese Nationality

The historical town of Guimarães was the birthplace of the first Portuguese king and served as the country's first capital.
On the 5th (Sat), explore the historical opulence of Guimaraes Castle and then admire the landmark architecture of Paco dos Duques de Braganca. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the next day: pause for some serene contemplation at Igreja de Nossa Senhora da Oliveira, then get engrossed in the history at Alberto Sampaio Museum, then steep yourself in history at Largo da Oliveira, and finally appreciate the extensive heritage of Centro Historico de Guimaraes.

Getting from Fatima to Guimaraes by car takes about 2.5 hours. Other options: take a bus; or do a combination of bus and train. In December, daily temperatures in Guimaraes can reach 17°C, while at night they dip to 8°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 8th (Tue) early enough to drive to Braga.

Portuguese Rome

Referred to as the Portuguese Rome for its number churches, Braga represents an old town that today is the country's third-largest city. Situated in northwest Portugal, Braga boasts many narrow pedestrian streets, plazas, and spiritual pilgrimage destinations.
On the 8th (Tue), skim along the rocks with Toboga, take in the spiritual surroundings of Sameiro Sanctuary, and then pause for some serene contemplation at Igreja da Conceicao.

Called "Oporto" by many, the city of Porto along the Duoro River lent the country and Port wine their names. Portugal's second-largest metropolis dates back to the 4th century, representing both a rich cultural past and industrial present through its architecture and style.
Dedicate the 11th (Fri) to wine at some of the top wineries in the area. The adventure continues: take in the views from Ponte de Dom Luis I, don't miss a visit to Liberdade Square, take in the local highlights with Walking tours, and enjoy breathtaking views from Torre dos Clerigos.
