Many visitors begin their Santa Marta holiday, surrounded by urban clutter and heavy traffic, expecting little from the city in terms of historical importance.
On the 3rd (Sun), explore the world behind art at Quinta de San Pedro Alejandrino and then kick back and relax at Cristal Beach. On your second day here, explore the striking landscape of Parque Nacional Natural Tayrona.

Colombia's heart and soul, Bogota has earned the nickname "Athens of South America" thanks to its abundance of universities, libraries, and lower-level schools.
Do some cultural sightseeing at Gold Museum (Museo del Oro) and Museo Botero del Banco de la Republica. Explore hidden gems such as Laguna de Guatavita and Casa Museo Quinta de Bolivar. When in Bogota, make a side trip to see Catedral de Sal in Zipaquira, approximately 54 minutes away. Next up on the itinerary: tour the pleasant surroundings at Mount Monserrate, steep yourself in history at Bolivar plaza, and look for gifts at Vitrina Guayca.

The site of the continent's first Spanish colony, Cartagena retains much of its colonial flavor thanks to a World Heritage-listed old town, encircled by old walls and protected by imposing fortresses.
Discover out-of-the-way places like Aviario Nacional de Colombia and Iglesia de la Trinidad. Get a sense of the local culture at Bairro Getsemani and Walled City of Cartagena. Step out of Cartagena to go to Isla Baru and see Playa Blanca, which is approximately 1h 05 min away. There's lots more to do: make a trip to Plaza de San Diego, explore the historical opulence of Castillo San Felipe de Barajas, pause for some serene contemplation at Sanctuary of Saint Peter Claver, and contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Templo de Santo Domingo.
