World Heritage-listed Edinburgh combines ancient and modern in a uniquely Scottish atmosphere.
Doune Castle and The Real Mary King's Close will appeal to history buffs. Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Scottish National Portrait Gallery and Rosslyn Chapel. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Edinburgh: Linlithgow Palace (in Linlithgow), Glasgow (Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum & The Necropolis) and National Wallace Monument (in Stirling). And it doesn't end there: contemplate the long history of New Lanark World Heritage Site, learn more about the world around you at National Museum of Scotland, engage your brain at Camera Obscura and World of Illusions, and wander the streets of Edinburgh Old Town.

Singapore, Singapore to Edinburgh is an approximately 20-hour flight. You can also do a combination of flight and train; or do a combination of flight and train. The time zone changes from Singapore Time to Greenwich Mean Time, which is usually a -8 hour difference. Plan for much colder temperatures traveling from Singapore in December, with highs in Edinburgh at 9°C and lows at 2°C. Fort William is the second largest settlement in the Highlands of Scotland with around 10,000 inhabitants – and the largest town: only the city of Inverness is larger.Fort William is a major tourist centre, with Glen Coe just to the south, Aonach Mòr to the east and Glenfinnan to the west, on the Road to the Isles. Visit Eilean Donan Castle and Blair Castle and Hercules Gardens for their historical value. Inveraray Jail and Inveraray Castle are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Next up on the itinerary: see the interesting displays at West Highland Museum, take in the architecture and atmosphere at MacIntosh Parish Church, learn about all things military at The Commando Museum, and contemplate the long history of Well of the Seven Heads.
