Peniche is a seaside municipality and a city in Portugal. Get a sense of the local culture at Monastery of Alcobaca and Batalha Monastery. Get some historical perspective at Castelo de Óbidos and Santa Maria do Castelo Church. Venture out of the city with trips to Praia da Nazare (in Nazare), Praia da Formosa (in Silveira) and Batalha (Casa Trovao & Capelas Imperfeitas). There's still lots to do: make a trip to Obidos Village, enjoy the sand and surf at Molhe Leste Beach, take in the architecture and atmosphere at Church of Nossa Senhora da Conceicao, and stroll through Praia dos Supertubos (Medão Grande).

Getting from Peniche to Coimbra by car takes about 2 hours. Other options: take a bus. In August, daily temperatures in Coimbra can reach 30°C, while at night they dip to 18°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 28th (Wed) to allow enough time to take a train to Lisbon.

Built on seven hills, Lisbon has experienced a renaissance in recent years, making it the cultural star of Portugal.
Castelo dos Mouros and Jeronimos Monastery are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Popular historic sites such as Cabo da Roca and Quinta da Regaleira are in your itinerary. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Lisbon: Guincho Beach (in Cascais) and Sintra (Park and National Palace of Pena & Sintra National Palace). There's still lots to do: explore the historical opulence of Castelo de S. Jorge, pause for some photo ops at Arco do Triunfo, admire nature's wide array of creatures at Lisbon Oceanarium, and take a stroll through Belém Tower.

Getting from Coimbra to Lisbon by train takes about 2 hours. Other options: drive; or take a bus. Traveling from Coimbra in August, you will find days in Lisbon are somewhat warmer (35°C), and nights are about the same (20°C). On the 2nd (Mon), wrap the sightseeing up by early afternoon so you can travel back home.
