Along Portugal's southern Algarve region sits Albufeira, a city boasting 20 beaches for visitors to choose from.
Relax by the water at Praia Da Rocha and Praia do Carvalho. Get in touch with nature at Dolphin & Whale Watching and Falesia Beach. Explore Albufeira's surroundings by going to Ponta da Piedade (in Lagos) and Praia da Marinha (in Carvoeiro). There's much more to do: enjoy the sand and surf at Praia Gale, find your balance on the water with some of the best stand-up paddleboarding in the area, and stroll through Algarve.

Sagres

Though the town of Sagres has roots in the Portuguese Age of Discovery, it is better known by visitors as a peaceful, rugged resort spot with great surfing beaches.
Do some cultural sightseeing at Cape Saint Vincent and Belixe Fortress. Visiting Praia do Amado and Telheiro Beach will get you outdoors. Get out of town with these interesting Sagres side-trips: Praia Da Amoreira (in Aljezur), Bordeira Beach (in Carrapateira) and Praia Vale Dos Homens (in Rogil). The adventure continues: see majestic marine mammals with a dolphin and whale watching tour.

Built on seven hills, Lisbon has experienced a renaissance in recent years, making it the cultural star of Portugal.
Get some cultural insight at National Tile Museum and Castelo dos Mouros. Visit Quinta da Regaleira and Belém Tower for their historical value. Explore Lisbon's surroundings by going to Sintra (Museu do Bonsai & Park and National Palace of Pena). Next up on the itinerary: take in the spiritual surroundings of Jeronimos Monastery, wander the streets of Alfama, get engrossed in the history at Carmo Archaeological Museum, and shop like a local with Museu Calouste Gulbenkian.

You can drive from Sagres to Lisbon in 3.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a bus. Traveling from Sagres in August, you can expect nighttime temperatures to be little chillier in Lisbon, with lows of 20°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 16th (Fri) early enough to travel to Porto.

Porto

Called "Oporto" by many, the city of Porto along the Duoro River lent the country and Port wine their names. Portugal's second-largest metropolis dates back to the 4th century, representing both a rich cultural past and industrial present through its architecture and style.
Museum-lovers will appreciate Museu Serralves and Museu Nacional de Soares dos Reis. Porto Cathedral (Se Catedral) and FC Porto Museum are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Spend the 18th (Sun) wandering through the wild on a nature and wildlife tour. There's lots more to do: take in the views from Ponte de Dom Luis I, contemplate the long history of Monumento aos Herois da Guerra Peninsular, stroll through Praia do Carneiro, and get into the urban bustle at Palacio da Bolsa.
