Designated a World Heritage Site because of its well-preserved Baroque architecture, the city of Ouro Preto served as the state capital until local governance outgrew the scale of this pleasant valley settlement.
Get some historical perspective at Sanctuary of Bom Jesus do Congonhas and Sao Pedro dos Clerigos Cathedral. Explore hidden gems such as Doze Profetas De Aleijadinho and Santa Efigenia dos Pretos church. Take a break from the city and head to Sao Jose Ridge and Gruta Casa de Pedra.
