Built on seven hills, Lisbon has experienced a renaissance in recent years, making it the cultural star of Portugal.
Get outdoors at Troia Beach and Parque Natural da Arrabida. Get a sense of the local culture at Miradouro da Graca and Castelo de S. Jorge. Spend the 14th (Mon) wandering through the wild on a nature and wildlife tour. There's more to do: wander the streets of Belém Tower and take in the spiritual surroundings of Mosteiro dos Jeronimos.

Surrounded by rolling hills and old mansions and castles, Sintra has become known as the first center of the European Romantic style.
Palacio Nacional de Mafra and Palacio Nacional de Sintra will appeal to history buffs. Visiting Cabo da Roca and Nature & Wildlife Tours will get you outdoors. There's still lots to do: explore the historical opulence of Park and National Palace of Pena, visit a coastal fixture at Santa Marta Lighthouse Museum, contemplate the long history of Chalet da Condessa D’Edla, and tour the pleasant surroundings at Praia da Rainha.

Sintra is very close to Lisbon. In October, daytime highs in Sintra are 28°C, while nighttime lows are 17°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 18th (Fri) so you can drive to Coimbra.

Old Cathedral of Coimbra (Se Velha de Coimbra) has been added to your itinerary. Start off your visit on the 4th (Mon): contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Old Cathedral of Coimbra (Se Velha de Coimbra), then contemplate the long history of Igreja e Mosteiro da Santa Cruz, and then enjoy the sand and surf at Poco da Cesta - praia fluvial de Casal Novo.
