The capital of the island of Madeira for more than 500 years, Funchal represents a laid-back city made popular by its historical sites and climate.
Do some cultural sightseeing at Colegio dos Jesuitas do Funchal and Igreja de Nossa Senhora do Monte. Your inner history buff will appreciate Ponta do Pargo Lighthouse and Cathedral of Our Lady of the Assumption. When in Funchal, make a side trip to see Levada Caldeirao Verde in Santana, approximately 46 minutes away. There's much more to do: get close to the beloved marine mammals with a swim-with-the-dolphins experience, get outside with Eira do Serrado, see the sights as you ascend with a climbing tour, and stroll through 25 Fontes and Cascada da Risco.

Start off your visit on the 25th (Thu): do a tasting at Casa Ramos Pinto, take in the architecture and atmosphere at Igreja da Ordem Terceira de São Francisco, take a stroll around Palacio da Bolsa, then take in the views from Ponte de Dom Luis I, then enjoy breathtaking views from Torre dos Clerigos, and finally contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Porto Cathedral (Se Catedral).
