The cultural, economic, and political center of the country, Vienna has developed from its early Celtic and Roman roots into a medieval and Baroque city, with an old town that was designated a World Heritage Site in 2001.
Explore hidden gems such as Burgruine Aggstein and Burgruine Duernstein. Myrafaelle and Stift Heiligenkreuz will appeal to history buffs. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Vienna: Burg Liechtenstein (in Maria Enzersdorf), Beethovenhaus (in Baden) and Stift Klosterneuburg (in Klosterneuburg). There's much more to do: take in the spiritual surroundings of St. Michael's Church, explore the world behind art at MAK - Austrian Museum of Applied Arts/Contemporary Art, steep yourself in history at Metternichpalais, and admire the landmark architecture of Cafe Gloriette.

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil to Vienna is an approximately 18-hour flight. You can also do a combination of flight and train; or do a combination of flight and bus. Due to the time zone difference, you'll lose 4 hours traveling from Rio de Janeiro to Vienna. In October, Vienna is much colder than Rio de Janeiro - with highs of 17°C and lows of 8°C. Historically known for the production of salt, Halstatt's fine architecture reflects the small village's salt mining legacy.
Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Badestrand Hallstatt and Dr. Vogelgesang-Klamm. Take a break from the city and head to Dachstein Giant Ice Caves and Waldbachstrub Waterfall. Explore Hallstatt's surroundings by going to Stift Admont (in Admont) and Traunkirchen (Pfarrkirche Traunkirchen & Johannesbergkapelle). There's lots more to do: stroll the grounds of Beinhaus, Karner, Ossuary, see the interesting displays at Museum Hallstatt, take in the architecture and atmosphere at Parish of the Assumption, and take in the spiritual surroundings of Hallstatt Lutheran Church.
