Aptly nicknamed the Eternal City, Rome is the birthplace of the Roman Empire, one of the world's greatest civilizations ever.
Vatican Museums and Musei Capitolini will appeal to museum buffs. Palatine Hill and Colosseum will appeal to history buffs. There's still lots to do: steep yourself in history at St. Peter's Basilica, pause for some serene contemplation at Santa Maria in Trastevere, don't miss a visit to Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore, and admire the masterpieces at Galleria Borghese.

Sao Paulo, Brazil to Rome is an approximately 15-hour combination of bus and flight. You can also do a combination of bus, flight, and train. The time zone changes from Brasilia Time to Central European Time, which is usually a 4 hour difference. May in Rome sees daily highs of 28°C and lows of 17°C at night. Finish your sightseeing early on the 17th (Fri) so you can take a train to Florence.
