The cultural, economic, and political center of the country, Vienna has developed from its early Celtic and Roman roots into a medieval and Baroque city, with an old town that was designated a World Heritage Site in 2001.Start off your visit on the 26th (Sat): make a trip to Stephansplatz, then get to know the resident critters at Schönbrunn Zoo, then explore the historical opulence of Schonbrunn Palace, and finally make a trip to St. Stephen's Cathedral. On your second day here, see the interesting displays at The Hofburg, admire the landmark architecture of Belvedere Palace, and then admire the masterpieces at Kunsthistorisches Museum Wien.

If you are flying in from Portugal, the closest major aiport is Vienna International Airport. In October, plan for daily highs up to 17°C, and evening lows to 8°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 27th (Sun) early enough to travel back home.
