Once the most important harbor in the Mediterranean Sea, Genoa has a long history as a rich and powerful trade center in northern Italy.
Start off your visit on the 10th (Tue): admire the masterpieces at Museo di Palazzo Reale, see the interesting displays at Galata Museo del Mare, then see the interesting displays at Dialogo nel Buio, then get to know the fascinating history of Via Garibaldi, and finally admire the striking features of Palazzi dei Rolli. Virtually unchanged for the last six centuries, Venice is actually a group of islands made famous by a series of canals, bridges, monuments, piazzas, and narrow pedestrian lanes.
Head to Piazza dei Signori and San Giorgio Maggiorefor plenty of shopping. Basilica Santa Maria Gloriosa dei Frari and Doge's Palace are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Venture out of the city with trips to Padua (Orto Botanico di Padova, Basilica di Sant’Antonio, & more). Getting from Genoa to Venice by car takes about 4 hours. Other options: take a train; or fly. Traveling from Genoa in September, expect a bit cooler with lows of 17°C in Venice. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 14th (Sat) so you can catch the train to Florence.
