Called "Oporto" by many, the city of Porto along the Duoro River lent the country and Port wine their names. Portugal's second-largest metropolis dates back to the 4th century, representing both a rich cultural past and industrial present through its architecture and style.
Porto Cathedral (Se Catedral) and Museu Nacional de Machado de Castro are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Get some historical perspective at Palacio da Bolsa and Monumento aos Herois da Guerra Peninsular. Step out of Porto with an excursion to Praia da Arda in Afife--about 1h 15 min away. There's still lots to do: snap pictures at Ponte de Dom Luis I, make a trip to Jardim da Rotunda da Boavista, tour the pleasant surroundings at Praia do Carneiro, and admire the masterpieces at Museu Serralves.

We've included these beaches for you: Garrao Nascente Beach and Costabeach Tavira Island and Tours. Step out of Tavira with an excursion to Praia da Alagoa in Altura--about 30 minutes away.
