In many ways the most modern of Italian cities, Milan is a busy, elegant metropolis with an impressive list of grand palaces, fine churches, and important museums.
Duomo di Milano and Monumental Cemetery are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Your inner history buff will appreciate Castello Sforzesco and Chiesa di San Maurizio al Monastero Maggiore. Change things up with these side-trips from Milan: Bergamo (La Citta Alta & Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore). There's lots more to do: explore the world behind art at Pinacoteca Ambrosiana, get to know the fascinating history of Piazza del Duomo, steep yourself in history at Il Cenacolo, and make a trip to Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II.
