The capital of the island of Madeira for more than 500 years, Funchal represents a laid-back city made popular by its historical sites and climate.
Museum-lovers will get to explore Caravel Art Center and Madeira Optics Museum. Get outdoors at Laurissilva Forest and Pico do Arieiro. Change things up with these side-trips from Funchal: Miradouro da Ponta do Rosto (in Canical) and Ponta de Sao Lourenco (in Machico). The most well-known city in the Algarve, Faro boasts a cliffside location with popular beaches and a thriving cultural scene.
Get some historical perspective at Precious Time and Sao Bras Chapel. Step out of the city life by going to Clube Equestrian A Palmeirinha and Fishing Charters & Tours. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Faro: Tavira (Jardim do Coreto & Xiri Beach Bar) and Cabanas de Tavira beach (in Cabanas).
