As the busy capital of São Miguel, Ponta Delgada represents the most visited place on the island. Known for its historical buildings, the city offers 17th- and 18th-century convents and churches, as well as cobbled pedestrian streets and hidden squares.
Escape the urban bustle at Scuba & Snorkeling and Lagoa do Fogo. You'll discover tucked-away gems like Furnas and Dolphin & Whale Watching. Get out of town with these interesting Ponta Delgada side-trips: Furnas (Poca Da Dona Beija & Caldeira das Furnas). There's still lots to do: get great views at Boca do Inferno Viewpoint, explore the striking landscape at Caldeira das Sete Cidades, identify plant and animal life at Caldeira Velha Environmental Interpretation Centre, and pause for some photo ops at Estatua Goncalo Velho Cabral.

On the 22nd (Mon), take in the architecture and atmosphere at Santuario de Santa Luzia, make a trip to Centro Historico de Guimaraes, then take in the spiritual surroundings of Sameiro Sanctuary, then take in the spiritual surroundings of Bom Jesus do Monte, and finally take in the architecture and atmosphere at Se de Braga.
