Called "Oporto" by many, the city of Porto along the Duoro River lent the country and Port wine their names. Portugal's second-largest metropolis dates back to the 4th century, representing both a rich cultural past and industrial present through its architecture and style.
Step out of the city life by going to Praia do Carneiro and River Rafting & Tubing. Get a sense of the local culture at Palacio da Bolsa and Igreja da Ordem Terceira de São Francisco. Take a break from Porto with a short trip to Peneda-Geres National Park in Peneda-Geres National Park, about 1h 35 min away. The adventure continues: take in the views from Ponte de Dom Luis I, admire the masterpieces at Museu Serralves, kick back and relax at Praia de Lavadores, and appreciate the history behind Monumento aos Herois da Guerra Peninsular.
