Called "Oporto" by many, the city of Porto along the Duoro River lent the country and Port wine their names. Portugal's second-largest metropolis dates back to the 4th century, representing both a rich cultural past and industrial present through its architecture and style.
Explore hidden gems such as Wine Tours & Tastings and Palacio da Bolsa. When in Porto, make a side trip to see Bom Jesus do Monte in Braga, approximately 52 minutes away. Fátima is a civil parish in the municipality of Ourém, in the Portuguese Santarém District. Step off the beaten path and head to Shrine of our Lady of the Rosary of Fatima and Obidos Village. Venture out of the city with trips to Nazare (Praia da Nazare & O Sitio), Monastery of Alcobaca (in Alcobaca) and Castelo de Óbidos (in Obidos). There's still lots to do: get lost in a book at Biblioteca Joanina - Universidade de Coimbra, take in the spiritual surroundings of Valinhos Sanctuary, and make a trip to Batalha Monastery.
