Florianopolis, Brazil to Tokyo is an approximately 31-hour flight. You can also do a combination of flight and train; or do a combination of flight, taxi, and train. The time zone difference when traveling from Florianopolis to Tokyo is 12 hours. Traveling from Florianopolis in December, expect Tokyo to be colder, temps between 14°C and 4°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 21st (Sat) to allow time to take a train to Kanazawa.

An old castle town largely unspoiled during World War II, Kanazawa features well-preserved architecture spread across a range of districts.
Venture out of the city with trips to Takayama (Takayama Jinya, Hida Folk Archeological Museum (Hida Minzoku Kokokan), & more), Ryokufu Resort Hida Nagareha (in Hida) and Shirakawa-mura (Shirakawago Gassho Zukuri Minkaen & The Historic Villages of Shirakawa-go Gassho Style Houses). There's much more to do: walk around Kenrokuen Garden, admire the landmark architecture of Kanazawa Station, steep yourself in history at Nomura Family Samurai House, and make a trip to Omicho Market.

You can take a train from Tokyo to Kanazawa in 2.5 hours. Other options are to fly; or drive. When traveling from Tokyo in December, plan for a bit cooler days and about the same nights in Kanazawa: temperatures range from 11°C by day to 3°C at night. Finish your sightseeing early on the 25th (Wed) so you can travel to Fukuoka.

The largest city on the island, Fukuoka formed through the merger of two former cities that had grown up either side of the Naka River.
Explore Fukuoka's surroundings by going to Huis Ten Bosch (in Sasebo), Kumamoto (Contemporary Art Museum, Kumamoto, Kumamoto Castle, & more) and Nagasaki (Nagasaki Peace Park, Nagasaki Atomic Bomb Museum, & more). There's lots more to do: take in the spiritual surroundings of Dazaifu Tenman-gu, admire the masterpieces at Fukuoka Asian Art Museum, stroll through Komyozen-ji Temple, and enjoy breathtaking views from Komenoyama Obsevatory.

You can fly from Kanazawa to Fukuoka in 3.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a train; or drive. December in Fukuoka sees daily highs of 13°C and lows of 5°C at night. Finish your sightseeing early on the 29th (Sun) to allow enough time to take a train to Hiroshima.

The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
Get out of town with these interesting Kyoto side-trips: Osaka (Osaka Castle & Dotonbori) and Universal Studios Japan (in Konohana). There's still lots to do: take in the spiritual surroundings of Kiyomizu-dera Temple, steep yourself in history at Sanjusangendo Temple, look for gifts at Fuuka-Kimono, and make a trip to Gion.

Traveling by train from Hiroshima to Kyoto takes 2 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or take a bus. In January, daytime highs in Kyoto are 10°C, while nighttime lows are 1°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 7th (Tue) early enough to travel back home.
