Referred to as the Portuguese Rome for its number churches, Braga represents an old town that today is the country's third-largest city. Situated in northwest Portugal, Braga boasts many narrow pedestrian streets, plazas, and spiritual pilgrimage destinations.
Get out of town with these interesting Braga side-trips: Passadicos do Paiva (in Arouca), Ponte Romana (in Ponte de Lima) and Santuario de Santa Luzia (in Viana do Castelo). There's lots more to do: contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Bom Jesus do Monte, take in the architecture and atmosphere at Santuario de Santa Maria Madalena da Falperra, contemplate the long history of Largo da Oliveira, and step into the grandiose world of Guimaraes Castle.

Expect a daytime high around 27°C in September, and nighttime lows around 16°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 26th (Thu) early enough to travel back home.
