Located at the confluence of the Moselle and the Seille rivers bordering Luxembourg and Germany, Metz has a cultural confluence as well with a merging of its French and German heritage and military traditions.
Le Temple Neuf and La Tranchee de Chattancourt are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Appreciate the collections at Fort de Queuleu and Centre International d'Art Verrier de Meisenthal (CIAV). Change things up with these side-trips from Metz: Fleury-devant-Douaumont (in Douaumont), Mort-Homme (in Verdun) and Eglise de Sillegny (in Sillegny). There's lots more to do: witness the site of a historic battle at Group Fortifications of Aisne, examine the collection at Fort Casso, contemplate the long history of Porte des Allemands, and take a stroll through Place Saint Jacques.

If you are flying in from Brazil, the closest major airport is Metz-Nancy-Lorraine Airport. In September, daytime highs in Metz are 23°C, while nighttime lows are 12°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 11th (Wed) early enough to travel back home.
