Built on seven hills, Lisbon has experienced a renaissance in recent years, making it the cultural star of Portugal.
Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Castelo dos Mouros and Cabo da Roca. Your inner history buff will appreciate Castelo de S. Jorge and Park and National Palace of Pena. Explore Lisbon's surroundings by going to Obidos (Obidos Village & Castelo de Óbidos) and Sintra (Museu do Bonsai, Quinta da Regaleira, & more). Rio de Janeiro, Brazil to Lisbon is an approximately 13.5-hour flight. You can also do a combination of bus and flight. Due to the time zone difference, you'll lose 3 hours traveling from Rio de Janeiro to Lisbon. In May, Lisbon is a bit cooler than Rio de Janeiro - with highs of 28°C and lows of 15°C.
