With its roots as the first European colony on the Amazon River, Belem has played an important part in the history of northern Brazil.
Belem is known for historic sites, parks, and shopping. Your plan includes some of its best attractions: pause for some serene contemplation at Basilica de Nossa Senhora de Nazare, make a trip to Estacao das Docas, see the interesting displays at Museu do Cirio de Nazare, and hunt for treasures at Mercado Ver-o-Peso.

To find where to stay, photos, and other tourist information, read our Belem day trip planning tool.

Salvador to Belem is an approximately 7.5- hour combination of bus and flight. You can also drive; or take a bus. When traveling from Salvador in September, plan for a bit warmer days and about the same nights in Belem: temperatures range from 36°C by day to 27°C at night. Finish your sightseeing early on the 7th (Mon) so you can travel back home.
