Called "Oporto" by many, the city of Porto along the Duoro River lent the country and Port wine their names. Portugal's second-largest metropolis dates back to the 4th century, representing both a rich cultural past and industrial present through its architecture and style.

Get some historical perspective at Palacio da Bolsa and Igreja do Carmo. Take a break from the city and head to Praia da Costa Nova and River Rafting & Tubing. Get out of town with these interesting Porto side-trips: Largo da Oliveira (in Guimaraes), Museu Monografico de Conimbriga (in Condeixa-a-Nova) and Santuario Nossa Senhora dos Remedios (in Lamego). Next up on the itinerary: take in the dramatic scenery at Poco da Cesta - praia fluvial de Casal Novo, pause for some photo ops at Monumento aos Herois da Guerra Peninsular, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Capela das Almas, and look for gifts at Garrafeira do Carmo.
